Comments: At age 76, I have been suffering from severe OA in most of my joints for decades and finally decided to have my right hip replaced when my last x-ray showed I was bone on bone. PT could not alleviate the chronic pain and I did not want to continue using high doses of NSAIDs to reduce my discomfort . Like most reviewers I made a deep dive into the types of hip surgeries (back, side, front), the platforms (robotic, minimally invasive, traditional), and recovery time (from same day outpatient to overnight stay followed by several weeks of post op rehab). I then looked at all the surgeons in the NYC area (HSS, Mt. Sinai, NYU Langone) who were under a certain age, had performed at least 1,000 procedures, and were using the most advanced equipment (3-D imaging with robotics on a specialized operating table). After interviewing several surgeons who met my requirements , I chose Dr. Davidovitch. All of the doctors I met were highly skilled, experienced and had great reviews. But Dr. Davidovitch was the only one who took the time to address my systemic OA and explain what I could expect . Besides being one of the most experienced surgeons performing anterior hip replacements with robotics and computerized imagery, Dr. Davidovitch is also very organized, has a great staff that is very responsive, and a post op protocol which guides his patients thoroughly.

I was surprised when he told me I would be a candidate for outpatient surgery. While I am in good shape and not overweight, I thought my age would require an overnight stay. Surgery in the morning and home at night is an apt description.

I had my procedure on Sept. 5th at 7:30 AM. I was awake by 10 AM and discharged at 1 PM. My wife drove us back to our home in Long Island that day. It took five hours in the car but I had no problems.

I used a walker for 2 days and a cane for 1 day. I followed Dr. Davidovitch's protocol for recovery on his Force app, which was very detailed about post op recovery, what to expect and what to do. I used the ice machine as he advised, which greatly helped in reducing the swelling in my hip. The only reminder of the surgery was a three inch scar.

When I visited Dr. Davidovitch for my 2 week follow up I was walking with only a slight limp. Stairs were no longer a problem. More importantly, I had a great deal more energy since my system did not have to deal with my 24/7 chronic pain.

It's now 21 days since my operation and I cannot believe I am walking, driving , bending with no pain. I am even walking on the beach with my Labrador, Peg, which was one of my main goals post op.

If you are considering a total hip replacement , I highly recommend Dr. Davidovitch. He is a caring, skilled , experienced surgeon with a great staff. It is a quick procedure which spares your muscles and allows you to go home the same day.
